At the Department of Culture and Identity, Roskilde University, a professorship will be vacant from 1st February, 2013. Cultural Encounters is a Bachelor - and Master programme, which is associated with the research group Intercultural Studies. The research group and the BA/MA-programmes emphasize interdisciplinary research and teaching located in the interface between the social sciences and the humanities. Intercultural Studies includes four prioritized areas of research:
1) Gender, power and diversity
2) Migrancy, urban diversity and cultural encounters
3) Postcolonial studies, across global relations (North-South; South-South; South-North)
4) The language-culture relation and language encounters.
The research group is characterized by cooperation both within and between these four areas, hence individual researchers also move between them. In order to strengthen cooperation and especially theoretical development and debates across the areas of the research group, this professorship is announced with a strong theoretical and interdisciplinary profile.
The programme is taught in both Danish and English. Successful candidates who do not speak Danish (or possibly Swedish or Norwegian) will be requested to acquire the necessary skills in Danish within the first two years of service, so as to ensure that they can participate satisfactorily in teaching activities as well as in academic and administrative activities at the University. At the time of appointment, successful candidates must master English for academic purposes.
