Tenure-track position in Iberian and Latin American Studies, regarding Latin American History in the colonial period and/or Iberian History (all periods) the Faculty of Humanities of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (open rank) open to individuals who hold a doctorate degree and for advanced doctoral students whose PhD will be conferred no later than July 1, 2017. Responsibilities include the teaching of required and elective courses in the candidate's field(s) of specialization (at B.A. and M.A. degree levels). Successful candidates are expected to conduct independent and original research at the highest academic level, demonstrate academic leadership, compete for Israeli and international research grants and have the ability to cooperate with colleagues within the Faculty of Humanities and beyond.
Candidates in the Latin American field are expected to possess comprehensive knowledge of Latin American history until the Independence Wars of the early 19th Century, and to be able to teach and advise graduate students in different aspects of the history of Latin America in the Colonial Period.
Candidates in the Iberian History field are expected to possess comprehensive knowledge of the History of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and/or Portugal), and to be able to teach and advise graduate students in different aspects of the history of Spain and/or Portugal. When relevant, familiarity with the imperial dimension of Spain and/or Portugal, especially with their colonies in Latin America, is also expected.
The Language of instruction is Hebrew, but candidates not fluent in the language will be given the time to reach proficiency in Hebrew during the initial years of their appointment.
