On Saturday, November 6th, three heavyweights from academia and the publishing world, Josep M. Muñoz (Editor of the publication Avenç, Barcelona), Paul Freedman (Yale University) and Carles Boix (Princeton University) will meet at Yale University to discuss 'A New History for a New Country: A Celebration of J. Vicens Vives'. The conference is organized by the Institut Ramon Llull in collaboration with the Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies and the Department of History at Yale University, as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Jaume Vicens Vives (Girona, 1910 - Lyon, 1960). It aims to discuss the work and achievements of a man considered to be "a historian of his time" and, in the words of the renowned British Hispanist Raymond Carr, "the first and only one who could at that time travel outside Spain and be considered an equal to his European colleagues."
