Español como lengua extranjera (ELE), Español como segunda lengua (EL2) The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Maryland (UMD) invite applications from candidates at the Assistant Professor rank in the field of Spanish Applied Linguistics. Interest and experience in teaching language and culture courses for professional purposes at the undergraduate level (Translation, Communications, Journalism, Medical and Health Professions, Engineering, etc.), and Spanish Applied Linguistics at the graduate level are highly desirable. We strongly encourage applicants with expertise in instructional technology. Familiarity with the Digital Humanities is a plus. The successful candidate must show evidence of excellence in teaching and promise of excellence in scholarship and academic leadership and/or a solid publication record in the field. The candidate will also be expected to take a leading role in the development of interdisciplinary initiatives with SLLC units, and UMD programs such as World Languages/ELL Education. Candidates should show strong commitment to teaching a diverse student population, particularly one with a significant percentage of Heritage Speakers of Spanish.
