Assistant Professor

The Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Toronto invites applications for a teaching-stream position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, effective July 1, 2018. 
Qualified candidates must have earned a PhD in Spanish (area open) by date of the application. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate the Spanish language sequence and to teach large and small undergraduate courses in Spanish from the introductory to advanced levels, as well as develop new initiatives in experiential learning.
Requirements include at least two years of experience in language coordination at peer institutions, current knowledge of language-teaching pedagogy, a record of excellence in teaching, and a solid record of pedagogical scholarship relevant to the position. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference reflecting on both excellent teaching and evidence of commitment to pedagogical enquiry and teaching innovation, and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement and course syllabi, submitted as part of the application. Toronto has a large Spanish-speaking population, and the ideal candidate should show a strong commitment to building relationships between the university and the external community. Evidence of excellence in pedagogical scholarship will be demonstrated through publications and presentations at significant conferences on pedagogical research in the discipline.
