ICALLAS was originally known as ICASAD (International Conference on Afro-Hispanic Studies across the Disciplines), which was held in 2007 at the University of Ghana. In 2009, the intellectual scope of this event was broadened, and ICASAD became ICALLAS, which inserts the concerns of the peoples of African ancestry suitably within the wider coordinates of Luso-Brazilian and Latin American Studies.Call For PapersThe conference organizers are soliciting a 150-word abstract for papers in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Papers addressing matters regarding peoples of African ancestry in the Spanish-speaking as well as Portuguese-speaking worlds are welcome. Broader questions in Latin American studies related to, but not limited exclusively to, Afro-Hispanics will also be considered. For an abstract to be accepted, it must be engaging and clearly articulate the objectives of the paper to be presented. Areas of inquiry could include the following disciplines:-Anthropology-Art and Music-Economics-Education and Sports-Environmental Studies-History-Journalism-Linguistics, especially Pidgin and Creole Languages-Literature-Music-Political Science-Population Studies-Public Health-Religion and Philosophy-SociologySpecial sessions on issues related to Africa have been created to appeal particularly to local faculty and student interests in the areas of culture, politics, history, philosophy, and the arts
