The goal of this event is to examine from many theoretical and descriptive perspectives the use of Spanish in parts of the world where it is in contact with another language. In keeping with conference tradition, we seek to gather scholars from a variety of fields, including language contact, sociolinguistics, the sociology of language, language education, language policy, heritage language education, and others. Chicago is the third largest Spanish-speaking city in the United States, creating a highly appropriate backdrop for this gathering.
