SCRIPTA HUMANISTICA is a scholarly series established for the purpose of publishing significant contributions in the area of humanistic studies: literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, and art, as well as creative writing in both prose fiction and poetry.
SCRIPTA, now thirty years old, is the sequel to the literary series STUDIA HUMANITATIS, founded by Professor Bruno Damiani, of the Catholic University of America, in 1973. SCRIPTA continues the commitment to excellence established by STUDIA HUMANITATIS, a commitment ensured by the ongoing service of distinguished Advisory Board members, who, along with several other experts, have assisted in the editorial process during the past twenty years.
The result has been an astonishing production of ninety-five volumes in the old series and over one hundred seventy titles in the new collection thus far. Several volumes in both series are prefaced by specialists in a variety of fields whose institutions have ranged from Harvard and the Sorbonne to Brown, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown University, the University of California, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Our publications have been reviewed enthusiastically in ten countries by over one hundred scholars in some of the finest professional journals, among them the French Review, Hispanic Review, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Quaderni Ibero-Americani, Romance Philology, Italica, Comparative Drama, American Literature, and Revista Canadiense de Estudios Hispánicos. Recognition of SCRIPTA titles has also come from such distinguished poets as Richard Bausch, recipient of the O. Henry Award, and Henry Taylor, Pulitzer Prize Winner.
On the average, one out of three manuscripts submitted has been accepted, often with requested revisions of content and/or style. Funding, whenever recommended by virtue of the highly specialized topic and/or a projected limited marketability, has come mainly from institutional grants, private contributions and government agencies, American and foreign, including the U.S. Naval Academy, the French Ministry of Culture, Spain’s Ministry of Culture, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
All titles in the SCRIPTA HUMANISTICA series are cloth bound, smyth sewn, and printed on superior quality paper.
